2010: Year of the RPGs

With the recent japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII and many re-releases of JRPGs coming to the PS3, there is no doubt that the start of the year 2010 is The Year of RPGs. Let's take a look and what's coming.

Final Fantasy XIII

This series has been talked about many more times than I can count on multiple websites. So much hype has been built around this series, the good, the bad, the ugly, everyone seems to have something to say about it whether it be good or bad. Regardless of this fact, the japanese PS3 version has already been released and an international version for the english speaking will be released March of 2010. Trailer below.

Personally, I'd play the japanese version if I knew how to understand and read japanese. The english version of FFXIII will replace the intro song with an R&B singer named Leona Lewis, which after listening to it, makes me think twice in purchasing the english version as the song is horrid to my ears.

Ar Tonelico III

Have not been able to really follow the other two previous games as the lack of availability for the other two is very slim. But seeing the trailer for this game seems very promising to get. Have heard good things from the Ar Tonelico games. Trailer below.

White Knight Cronicles

This is actually the first time I've heard of this game but not the first time I've heard of the Level-5 company. Seen the trailer and it seems very promising. Have heard it was very popular in Japan so lets see if it becomes popular internationally. (I doubt it as the japanese and american markets are almost completely opposite as gaming is concerned.) Trinity Universe

I'm not too sure what to say about this game but it does look interesting in my opinion. Has cute anime characters, contains the Disgaea characters as well and it seems like an RPG as well. Trailer below.

Tales of Vesperia

This series will be seeing a re-release to the PS3 as before it was an Xbox360 Exclusive. Also in this re-release there will be more content added as well as a new character. Currently from what I've gathered its only released in Japan, whether there will be a release for international gamers is not known. If you know and can show proof that there will be an international release then please let us know. Trailer below.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International

This is another re-release, originally it was another Xbox360 exclusive but now it has been ported to the PS3 with new content added for this International release. Whether the international part is intentional to state that will be also released around the world is not known, but if you have any information in this regard please let us know. Trailer below.

Personally I'm a fan of this series and honestly cant wait for an english version for this game.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Finally but not least, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. While it may seem like a sequel to XIII itself, it seems completely different in every regard and many people are anticipating this game more than Final Fantasy XIII. No release date has been set for this and not much information is known on this game either as it's still in development. Trailer below.

The character shown on the trailer looks very bad ass and reminds me of Cloud from FF7. If they were to remake Cloud in a different setting/story/etc etc I would get this no questions asked.

Final Fantasy XIII/XIV TGS 2009 Trailer

The latest Final Fantasy series is just around the corner and a trailer was released in the Tokyo Game Show 2009 (TGS 2009). Even though I say "trailer", the video is actually over 7 minutes long and its a must see for any RPG and/or Final Fantasy fan.

Both videos are Japanese with no english subtitles but the video should suffice. I was able to understand about 10% of what they were saying since my japanese has gotten much better than before.

Final Fantasy XIII:

Final Fantasy XIV:

Release Date for Final Fantasy XIV: 2010 (JP)

I will definitely try getting a copy of Final Fantasy XIII when it hits the US and hoping that it is released on the PS3, but if it can be released on both consoles then thats fair game. Shuffle! Game now in English

You heard right folks, the game Shuffle! which was release in 2004 in Japan and was a complete success, has finally been translated into English and is Uncensored! How awesome is that? Pretty awesome for those who always wanted to play the game but couldn't because it was in Japanese. (me)

For those don't know about Shuffle or have not heard of it, here is the story:

Story:

In a certain complex of ruins, two gates have opened.
On the other side lie the world of the Gods and the world of the Devils.
These three worlds are now connected, and this causes a big change in society.

This story is set in a certain city located in a certain country.
A certain boy lives in this city. One day, two new families move into the houses neighboring his. The new residents turn out to be the King of the Gods and the King of the Devils. Both of them have moved in next to the boy's house by request of their respective daughters, who fell in love with him at an early age.

Many years ago, when the boy was still a child, he had a chance encounter with each of the girls. Their meeting was brief at best, but the girls took it to heart and kept the memory alive until this day.

The stage is set for a story that involves the boy's childhood friend as well as others around him. It is a tale of hardship and despair, but also one of faint hope. It is a tale of a boy who, to quote his cynical friend, is capable of becoming either God, Devil or Man.

Characters:

Rin Tsuchimi

Details: Rin is the protagonist. He is a student at Verbena Academy, a special school that educates pupils from all races. His parents died when he was still young, and now he lives with his childhood friend Kaede. Rin has a lot of patience and endurance, but he can't abide to see anyone suffer.
Though he has so far passed his days in relative peace, the appearance of the princesses from the other worlds is about to severely derail his tranquil existence.

Lisianthus

Details: Sia for short.
She is the only daughter of the royal family of the Gods.
The memory of her one-shot meeting with Rin has driven her to come to the world of Humans. Her bright, cheerful personality enables her to talk at ease with anyone she meets, and she often sets the mood in conversations.

She is good at home economics and she also excels at sports, but studying isn't her forte. She is prone to hitting her father over the head with a chair when the situation demands it.

Nerine

Details: Rin for short.
She is the only daughter of the royal family of the Devils. Similar to Lisianthus, she has had a chance encounter with Rin at an early age, and her desire to see him again has prompted her to move to the world of Humans.

While her personality is reserved and her attitude polite, she mercilessly brings down fiery judgment on anyone who wrongs her beloved Rin. She also possesses a beautiful singing voice dubbed 'Angel's Bell' by those who have heard it, but she dislikes singing herself.

Kaede Fuyou

Details: Kaede is a childhood friend of Rin's, and as it so happens they live under the same roof.
Her mother passed away at the same time as Rin's parents. Like Rin, she attends Verbena Academy, and they are in fact classmates.

Blessed with a razor-sharp mind, superb motor reflexes, a beautiful countenance and a gift for household matters, it comes as no surprise that she is the object of adoration in Verbena Academy. However, her commitment to Rin is so strong that she frequently messes up when it comes to herself.

Asa Shigure

Details: Asa is a senior at Verbena Academy.
She is in the cooking club, same as Kaede. As a result, she and Rin are close associates by necessity. Their relation is best described as bad companionship.

Though Asa is a responsible, diligent girl, she is also cheerful and quick to make friends. However, she also has a lesser-known tendency to depend on others. Asa likes cake and helping people, but for some reason she quite dislikes magic.

Primula

Details: Prim for short.
She is a homunculus, an engineered life-form developed in a joint effort between the worlds of the Gods and the Devils. She has come to the world of Humans to meet Rin, whom she has heard many things about.

She doesn't talk much, and she is extremely bad at socializing. She also doesn't appear to have any preferences, be they good or ill, nor does she display an interest in anything, with the sole exception of cats. Once she meets Rin her personality begins to change, slowly.

Anyone else look forward in playing this game? I sure am! Will play it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Memories of Eternity - RPG Game in the Making

I am proud to present to you all the latest Project in which I, Ecchi Goshujin-sama, is involved in. It is a game project in which was just recently started last month and its on its way to development.

Currently we don't have a finished short summary script of what the game will be of, but once that is done I'll be sure to post it here for you guys. For now I have 2 songs from the game which I can share with you all.

Vanguard Princess

Found an interesting game which I would love to share with you all. It's a PC Fighting Game called Vanguard Princess. When I first saw the pictures I thought the characters were very cute and moe-like. After seeing gameplay videos I immidiately thought, "I need to get this now!".

I went ahead and started looking into how I can get my geeky hands on it and found out that the game is provided and downloadable for FREE! Yes, FREE! The only thing to worry about instead is not being able to read Japanese. Now I'm pretty sure you want to see some pictures and videos and THEN you'll be like, "Hey, where's the download link? I want to get this too!"

So by now I'm sure you are wanting to know how to get you grubby little dirty hands on your own copy and start playing. Well, I'll be happy to supply you with the information that you need to get it playing on your PC today!

In order to be able to play the game, you will need AppLocale installed on your PC. AppLocale will work in Win XP and Vista.

Instructions:

Path to game must contain only Latin chars.
Rename folder ヴァンガードプリンセス to anything else (”vanpri” for example)
Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.exe to vanpri.exe
Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.kgt to vanpri.kgt
Use AppLocale, now it works.

JAST Partners With Nitroplus

Great news for those of you that play the english eroge games from JList, JAST is partnering with Nitroplus to translate and release Nitroplus eroge games.

What this means for the eroge gamers, including myself, is that there will be much more high quality eroge games available to all outside of Japan. And the best part is that it will be translated into english text for those that haven't mastered the Japanese language just yet. No word yet if the games will be uncensored just like the rest of the games which JList supplies, but i'm sure that they will come uncensored.

Excerpt from the announcement:

JAST USA President Peter Payne announced the deal at the 2009 Anime Expo bishoujo games industry content panel along with details of the first of several Nitroplus games to be released in English, Zanma Taisei Demonbane (release title pending).

“As the leading producer of adult ‘dating sim’ games and visual novels in English, JAST USA is excited to take the bold step of forming this partnership, devoted to the release of high quality, English language versions of Nitroplus products,” Mr. Payne said.

This is indeed great news which I'm very happy about and looking forward to see the release of Nitroplus games in English. Will look into the Demonbane game from Nitroplus and see how the story and game mechanics is.

Final Fantasy XIII Gameplay Leaked

Just a couple of hours ago at the time of writing this article, news spread widely all over the interwebs about the gameplay footage on the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII. More details after the jump.

The footage was taken from the Final Fantasy XIII demo and runs for a total of 40 minutes in a span of 6 videos. The videos have been embeded in this article so you can enjoy the awesome footage provided by the japanese.

In my personal thoughts, I found the gameplay footage to be just fantastic. I loved the music composition in Final Fantasy 13 and can't wait to hear the rest when it officially comes out for the US.

The Japanese tentative release date is Winter 2009, so I'm figuring that the US and other versions will soon follow in 2010. At the moment it will be released for the PS3 in Japan, and XBOX 360 for the US, unless Square-Enix changes those plans in the future.
